Holiday Stuff:

As usual, if we cancel school, it will first be announced over SchoolReach, our automated system, then, over Channels 2, 4, and 5 from St. Louis. We also announce over WBGZ Radio (AM 1570). Then, check back later with our Web site ( for any other activity or athletic-related announcements. Parents: If for some reason you don't get those SchoolReach calls, please contact Mrs. Guthrie (254-3151, Ext. 2501) and we will be glad to update any changes. Generally speaking, we use the same numbers that you supply us with at Registration, but we know those change from time to time.

Homecoming Stuff - Revised AGAIN (10-2-14)
Great news ... Here's how Homecoming will go on Friday, Oct. 3rd. We will play Alton High in boys soccer at 7:00 p.m. (in lieu of the football game) in Memorial Stadium.  The weather looks great for tomorrow night, so that should not be a problem. All of the usual half-time Homecoming activities (including the introduction of the Court) will go on as planned! Thanks to Mr. Miller for making this happen! Good Luck to Coach Lawson and the soccer Oilers! Reminder: the football game was forfeited by Metro-East Lutheran due to low participation numbers with it's team. It will not be replayed. Our next varsity football game is at Pawnee on Oct. 10th.

Board Secretary, Dorothy Malone - RIP .... (10-1-14)

We mourn the recent passing of our long-time friend, Oiler booster, and school board member, Dorothy Malone of Wood River.
Dorothy always kept the needs of boys and girls in the forefront of her Board service. She was a blessing to all who knew her, and we wish only the best for her son, Mike, her Mom, Mary, her brother and sister Anne and Tony, and all of the extended family, friends, and district staff who are grieving right now. Dorothy served on the EAWR School Board continuously from 2002 to her death, as well as an earlier stint as an appointee from 2000-2001. We will miss you Dorothy! Here is a link to her obituary

Pulaski Day and Spring Break... (10-1-14)

In an effort to compress the school calendar into a shorter window (and still attend the required number of pupil attendance days within that window of time), the school board voted last month to have a day of regular attendance on Pulaski Day, which falls every year on the first Monday in March. In 2015, that date is Monday, March 2nd. That will allow us to move up the last day of school one extra day. We hope that everyone likes the idea. We sure want to avoid a June dismissal if we can! Originally, we thought of using Pulaski Day as a "buy back" day for some day used earlier in the winter. However, it seemed to make more sense - given that day's location so close to the snow season - to just plan on using that as an attendance day - no matter what.

Spring break is also shorter in 2014-15 than in year's past, with the same goal in mind - compressing that school year. This year, students will be off for certain on the Thursday (April 2, 2015) and Friday (April 3, 2015) before Easter. And, if no snow days are used (or perhaps just 1-2), we will also dismiss on the Wednesday before Easter (April 1, 2015) and the Monday after Easter (April 6, 2015), as well as the "for certain" days off mentioned above. On the flip side, if we are forced to use a large number of snow days, we may "make those up" by holding school on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 and Monday, April 6, 2015. We will make these determinations sometime in February or early March. So, please, do not make any hard & fast schedules or travel plans for April 1, 2015 or April 6, 2015, as we may very well hold school on those two days.
